The Explorers Grand Slam includes climbing the Seven Summits and skiing to the last degrees of the North and South Poles. This is something that has intrigued me more in recent years. Polar exploration is something that is remote and so special that, which is why so few people have ever experienced traveling to both poles. Due to global warming, skiing to the North Pole tragically won’t be an option for much longer, and changes in our global sea levels have already made the feat much more difficult to accomplish.
No doubt this journey will be tiresome and terrifying, especially considering I’ve never skied before. But I’m going full force into this challenge! I’m excited, intrigued, and batshit afraid, though I can’t help but thinking that combination of feelings might just be what I need to succeed. In gearing up for the world’s remotest, untouched locations, I think about how excited I will be standing on the poles, freezing yet wildly filled with excitement.
